OPTOMAP RETINAL IMAGING

Optomap Retinal Imaging is an advanced scanning technology that captures a highly detailed, ultra-widefield image of the retina (the back of the eye). In just a few seconds, it allows us to view a much larger area of the retina than with traditional methods, helping to detect early signs of eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal disease. The scan is quick, comfortable, and non-invasive, and the images can be safely stored to monitor any changes in your eye health over time. This provides an extra level of reassurance and helps us give you the most thorough eye examination possible.

Why Choose Optomap Retinal Imaging?

Optomap Retinal Imaging provides a highly detailed, ultra-wide view of the retina, allowing your optometrist to assess your eye health more thoroughly. The scan is quick, comfortable, and helps detect potential issues at an early stage, often before you notice any symptoms. By capturing and storing images of your retina, we can also monitor changes over time and provide more personalised eye care.

Benefits of Optomap include:

  • Ultra-widefield view – captures up to 200° of the retina in a single image, far more than traditional methods.

  • Early detection – helps identify signs of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal disease.

  • Quick and comfortable – the scan takes only a few seconds and is completely non-invasive.

  • Detailed digital images – high-resolution images allow us to explain your eye health clearly.

  • Track changes over time – stored images help us monitor your eye health at future visits.

  • Often no need for dilation – in many cases the scan can be performed without using dilating drops.
